Grant Eligibility and Criteria

The Etheridge Foundation assesses grants on a rolling basis. The size of our grants typically ranges from $10,000-$43,500, with rare exceptions for larger amounts.

Grant applications are currently open and will close on August 31, 2026. Our next cycle will run from October 1-31, 2026.

We invite proposals for studies that meet the criteria below. Each of these criteria must be a substantive element of the project to be considered for a grant.

Before applying or inquiring, please note:

  • Indirect costs policy: the Etheridge Foundation does not support overhead / indirect costs (0% grant budget allocation).

  • Films, shows, and other media projects are not eligible for Etheridge Foundation grants.

Requirements

Our grants support projects that align with our mission through a focus on the following elements:

1) Comprise medical, clinical, or community healthcare studies by accredited institutions / investigators;

2) Are undertaken and directed by nonprofit institutions for the common good;

3) Utilize psychedelic therapies and/or traditional plant medicines and asses their impact;

4) Are focused on the treatment or prevention of opioid use disorder (OUD) and/or closely related conditions; and

5) Work with human participants, for ethical and relevant data – animal studies are not eligible.

In addition, grants are prioritized to studies that use integrative understandings of addiction which consider underlying causes and co-occurring mental health factors.

By invitation only, the Etheridge Foundation may occasionally award grants for novel projects beyond the above criteria that advance understanding of plant medicines and/or psychedelic therapies for treatment of opioid use disorder.
