PSYCHEDELIC TREATMENTS FOR ADDICTION RECOVERY

R.I.S.E Working Session — Etheridge Foundation
Etheridge Foundation · Inaugural Event

Psychedelics, Plant Medicines & the Future of Addiction Recovery

One room. Every perspective the field needs.

The evidence base for psychedelics and plant medicines in addiction care is growing fast — and so are the open questions. Researchers, clinicians, and community recovery leaders are often working the same problem from different rooms, with different vocabularies and different stakes.

On November 13, the Etheridge Foundation is bringing 100 of them into one room for a structured day of dialogue: mapping what we actually know, examining models of care, confronting ethics and risk head-on, and designing concrete next steps — together.

This Working Session follows the inaugural R.I.S.E Summit on November 12, in collaboration with leading researchers and community partners.

100
invited participants, seated in mixed-stakeholder groups
  • Who's in the room: researchers, clinicians, peer & community recovery leaders
  • Format: breakouts, World Café rotations, case-based deliberation, design sprints
  • Duration: 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM, with a closing reception

What the day is built to produce

By the close of the session, participants will have worked together toward three concrete goals.

01

Shared priorities, named tensions

Identify where research, clinical practice, and community experience align — and where they genuinely conflict.

02

Practice- and policy-relevant insight

Co-develop insight that can travel beyond the room — into clinics, training programs, and policy conversations.

03

Outputs with a destination

Generate concrete material to inform conference panels, future research, and ongoing collaboration.

A working agenda, not a lecture series

Every session is built around mixed-stakeholder conversation — not panels talking at the room.

8:30 – 9:00 AM
Arrival & Registration
Light breakfast, mixed seating, and table prompts to break the ice across disciplines.
9:00 – 9:30 AM
Opening & Framing
Why this session exists, the current landscape, and the community agreements that will guide the day.
9:30 – 10:45 AM
Session 1 — Shared Landscape Mapping
Mixed-stakeholder breakouts surface what we actually know — and where the evidence, clinical experience, and lived experience diverge.
11:00 AM – 12:15 PM
Session 2 — Models of Care & Support
A rotating World Café across clinical models, community & peer support, and research translation.
1:45 – 3:00 PM
Session 3 — Ethics, Risk & Accountability
Case-based deliberation on who is protected, who is vulnerable, and who decides.
3:15 – 4:30 PM
Session 4 — Collaboration Design Labs
Self-selected design sprints on research priorities, clinical training, peer integration, and policy — each producing a concrete proposal.
4:30 – 5:00 PM
Harvest, Synthesis & Closing
Report-backs, cross-cutting themes, and next steps toward publication and continued collaboration.
5:00 – 6:00 PM
Reception
Unwind over hors d'oeuvres and beverages while connecting with fellow researchers, clinicians, and peer leaders from across the day.
